The Grace of Christ be with you!

Few annual events are as planned out as thoroughly as the Christmas holidays. So, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that the first Christmas came as an interruption, a break in the expected routine of life first for Joseph & Mary & then for many others all the way up to the present day church. How can Christ’s advent interrupt the church today when Christmas is so carefully planned ahead?

  • By calling us to help those in need.

  • By calling us to make room in the inn.

  • By calling us to look for light in darkness.

  • By calling us to forebear and forgive.

  • By calling us to find joy in giving.

  • By calling us to be parents of the gospel.

The birth of Christ, as with other acts of God, comes as an intervention into history. For instance, Moses was tending sheep when God called to him from a burning bush. Likewise, David was tending sheep when the prophet Samuel came to anoint a new King over Israel. Also, Peter was fishing when Jesus came and called him to follow. How does the advent of Christ interrupt your life today?

Blessings, Will
