National Day of Prayer

May 7, 2020

Grace & Peace to all!

Tomorrow, May 7th, is the National Day of Prayer. The North Carolina Council of Churches is inviting our churches to “In a spirit of solidarity and hope, join us for the sounds that summon us to worship even as we wait for the day we will all be together again.”

In the “spirit of solidarity and hope,” I will stand on the front steps (weather permitting) of our church and ring in the noon hour live on Facebook. You can watch it live on our church’s Facebook page at “Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church.” You will be able to watch the replay on Facebook, too. I will also post the replay on vimeo and will include the link in our weekly church email.

Here’s praying for the day that we will be able to answer this call to worship in person!

Blessings,

Will

An Open Letter from Will re: COVID-19 March 18, 2020

An Open Letter from Will re: COVID-19

March 18, 2020

The Grace of Our Lord and Savior be with you all!

Friends, the session of MJPC has discussed the current situation with regard to our church and the Covid-19 pandemic. We are fortunate to be in a position to act before the virus has, as best that we can tell at the moment, been introduced into our midst locally in Ashe County. The session’s faith in the providence of God remains firm and the session has acted not in fear but in faith that we are called to follow the best advice from the best sources to love our neighbors as ourselves. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recommended that all gatherings of 50 or more persons cease for eight (8) weeks. Our own Salem Presbytery has recommended that all of our churches, of all sizes, comply with the CDC recommendation. Your session has voted to comply with recommendation of the CDC. Therefore, all public worship services and events at MJPC are cancelled through May 10th (Unless the CDC revises their recommendation).

We will not gather physically at MJPC during this time but we are all in this together and will remain together in the ways that are available to us: prayer, phone/cards/letters, social media, and the like. During this time:

• Join us online for worship each week! Worship will be live-streamed on Sunday mornings at 9am. It can be viewed anytime afterwards via the streaming archives (follow links at www.mjpc.org) or on our Facebook page (Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church). We will offer our combined worship with First Baptist and WJ UMC through at least the end of March.

• Join us for Holy Week Noon services! We will livestream our Holy week services each day, April 6-10 at 12noon. More information on how to connect with this event will be sent out closer to the date.

• ZOOM video conferencing! Zoom is free video conferencing software that you can download onto your computer and use to meet together online. MJPC will try to have some events (Bible Study? Q and A time?...) via Zoom. If you interested, check it out at this link: https://zoom.us/ and see what you think.

• The church office will be closed to visitors during this time. Please call the office during normal hours (Mon-Tue, 8:30-4; Wed, 8:30-1:30 for now) to reach Doris but if at all possible please refrain from visiting. There is a visitor’s log by the door if you do need to come by. Please record your visit.

Finally, if at all possible, do remember to keep up your giving to the church as you are able. We are in uncharted territory and some of you will not be able to give at this time. We understand. For those who are able, you can mail your support to the church PO Box. Please do not send mail to our street address. The post office will not deliver to our building. Our mailing address is:

MJPC

PO Box 782

West Jefferson, NC 28694

We are also looking into setting up online giving via our MJPC website. We will let you know once that is up and running.

Friends, in these times we have been asked to keep our physical distance from one another but none of us is alone. We are simply doing what we can to work together as the church and society to stop or slow the transmission of the Covid-19 virus. In the meantime, call one another, send cards, send emails and texts, visit our church online on our website (www.mjpc.org) and on Facebook (Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church) and in this way, “Let mutual love continue!” (Hebrews 13:1).

A letter with this and other pertinent info will be sent out the first of next week. Please call or text me anytime at 336-877-7451 or email me at pastor@mjpc.org. I will continue to pray for you and will joyfully accept any prayers sent my way! All things must pass and we will get through this and have one glorious (if a little late by the calendar) Easter celebration together!

Grace & Peace to all!

Will

Sunday Fellowship August 4, 2019

Sunday Fellowship

August 4, 2019

* If you missed the Sunday, August 4, 2019 Fellowship Hour when the cookbook committee hosted and had everyone share recipes from Appetizers and Desserts in our new cookbook, YOU MISSED OUT! However, it isn't too late to enjoy recipes from the cookbook that were labeled with the recipe name and page in the book.

* The Cookbook Committee thanks everyone who made the Church Fellowship last Sunday such a success. All the contributions were so good, there was hardly anything left to clean up besides the serving dishes!

* Again, if you have a recipe to add or correct, please give a copy to anyone on the Cookbook Committee. We will be issuing an addendum that can be easily inserted into the current book.

* Thanks again, and stay tuned for the Fall Pot Luck that will feature a broader selection of recipes from Loaves and Fishes!

* Thank you.
